HELLO!
TO OUR EAST WILLISTON COMMUNITY
Dear Friends, Families, and Neighbors,
We are honored and excited to announce our candidacy for the East Williston School District Board of Education. Together, as parents, professionals, and committed community members, we are running for the two open seats in this year’s election.
We are running because we deeply love this school district. We are raising children here — and like so many of you, we are filled with gratitude every day for the extraordinary learning community we’re lucky to be part of.
Our schools are truly special. Nationally ranked, home to some of the best educators and most inspiring learners anywhere, East Williston is a district with a reputation for excellence — and a culture that fosters it. That kind of climate doesn’t happen by accident. It happens through trust, care, collaboration, and an unwavering focus on what’s best for students.
We want to protect and strengthen that culture. We believe our educators should be empowered to do their best work, and that our students should be supported to reach their fullest personal potential. We’re not running on fear or outrage. We’re running on optimism — because we know what we have is worth protecting, and we know what’s possible when a community comes together.
We also believe in looking forward. In building even stronger partnerships between families, educators, and learners. In using technology wisely to enhance—not replace—great teaching. In improving support for students through the college process and postsecondary planning. In making sure every student feels seen, heard, and supported in every classroom.
We bring diverse experiences — in medicine and technology — but what unites us is our deep belief in this district and its people. We trust our educators and believe they deserve the resources and respect to do their best work. We believe in using district funds wisely and strategically — not through fear-based cuts, but through smart investments that directly support student success. We're committed to listening, collaborating, and leading with balance and integrity, focused on strengthening what works and building on the excellence we’ve all helped create.
We look forward to meeting with many of you over the coming weeks — to hear your stories, your hopes, and your ideas. This is a community full of heart and brilliance. Together, let’s continue to make it a place where every child can thrive.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Nadia Afridi, MD MBA & Bo Hsu, MBA
Candidates for EWSD Board of Education
We believe that serving on the School Board should not be primarily about politics. We’re running to be your Trustees — the people you trust to listen with open minds and hearts, to act rationally and thoughtfully, to lead with integrity, and to always consider the needs of every child above all else.
EXCELLENCE COMES IN MANY FORMS
When we say “every child,” we recognize that each student is unique and may require different kinds of support to thrive. We also know that success looks different for every student. Excellence comes in many forms. In our top-rated school district, the conversation often centers around test scores and top college admissions, but it’s critically important to acknowledge and support the diverse needs and aspirations of all our students, including those who receive special education services. We understand that achievement isn’t one-size-fits-all. For some students, it may center around SAT scores; for others, it may mean developing independence, life skills, social skills, or discovering a passion or a trade. Our commitment is to honor and nurture each student’s individual journey, ensuring that all learners have the resources, opportunities, and encouragement they need.
WE’RE LISTENING
While we both have lots of ideas for our district (which you can read more about on this site), and we understand that hearing those ideas is how you get to know us, the role of Trustee is actually not about imposing our own agendas. This isn’t just some political position and we aren’t platforming. We’re parents, we’re community members, and we’re ready to serve as open-minded Trustees to represent the needs of our district and community. Not just our self-interests.
-
This role is about listening — to students, educators, and families — and ensuring that our district’s resources are strategically and rationally allocated — with care — so that every learner has what they need to thrive in their own way.
-
We will work closely with our Special Education Parent Council and other committees to ensure that the right curriculum, technology, post-secondary readiness supports, social-emotional learning, and other opportunities/materials are appropriately accessible to all learners on every pathway. This is ever-evolving work based on changing needs, and we’re here to serve.
-
We believe in empowering our educators, the true experts in their field, to lead the way in making recommendations. We’re also committed to providing ongoing support to our teachers. That means ensuring they have the best resources, investing in their professional development, and creating a positive culture and climate, so that top educators choose to teach and stay in our district.
-
As new Trustees, we will build the community’s trust through collaboration and discourse. We will explore ways to build more open channels of communication, and we will always demonstrate that conversation uncovers common ground and solutions faster than confrontation and conflict. It also builds more long-lasting trust. We’ll always stand up for what’s right with dignity, working to bring people together and move our schools forward.
Thank you for your trust,
Nadia Afridi, MD MBA and Bo Hsu, MBA
